Projects

Knitted within a visually complex commercial building block context, HMWhite’s terrace design introduces garden walls and a landscape framework to spatially organize a sequence of complimentary garden rooms. Calming human scale is achieved through the garden architecture definition and common material language. With a central open lawn, a common gathering space promotes flexible uses while implying a shared sense of community. Passive and active recreational activities are accommodated by the fluidity of the garden room configuration to deliberately foster a strong sense of community and common fellowship. Empowering the belief that design intelligence inspires social engagement and positive civic behavior, the Garden Commons serves as the building’s “village green.”  Functioning as the residents’ personal back yard, the garden terrace offers a sanctuary destination and a visual amenity to witness the garden’s seasonal evolutions.
