The vision for the Visitor Center’s landscape reached well beyond the Center’s immediate project site borders to demonstrate an appropriate larger contextual integration with the Garden. HM White developed a phased implementation strategy that established workable project budgets and construction sequences.
The site design approach is organized around a series of water collecting and cleansing planting features. A new landscape typology of riparian plant communities are introduced to withstand and thrive within a range of moisture fluctuations. Rain and woodland infiltration garden features weave together to create a contextual landscape framework which serves as a new pedagogical tool for the Garden.
